suspension

Postby [intrcool] » Wed Oct 06, 2004 11:01 am

you know rod that slides in and out of the suspensin strut? (stupid question i know...) is it possible to take these out and shorten them? and then put them back in?

i want to take like, 20-30mm off the top of mine and re-thread the tip, so as to make the springs a much tighter fit and thus, lower the car more...

is this possible? has anyone done it? how much did it cost?

cher.

You mean the insert? Yip you can shorten it, thats what part is shortened when you 'shorten the shocks/strut'. Prices differ place to place but are generally around $100-120 a pair

Be wary though, technically it has to be certed if you do it. May be better to look for some new shorter stroke inserts.

Most suspensions shops with half a clue should be able to find short stroke shocks that will fit your car.

No one is likely to know if you machine them down, but if it all goes wrong and one breaks and causes an accident it is your ass on the line. In which case you could be facing large fines, no insurance and possibly jail (if someone got hurt/killed). Your choice.
