Plug and play data logger for 4AGE?

Postby DFECTED » Fri Oct 15, 2004 4:20 pm

Does anybody know if it is possible to plug and play a datalogger into the diagnostic port?

For example, for Mitsubishis, you take a normal palm planner, the right software (freeware) and a custom made cable from the diagnostic port to the palm and you have youself a plug and play real time datalogger. Cost, cheep.

Displays Knock, AFR, Timing, injector D/C, rpm, etc

Would it be possible to do this with Toyotas ecu?

Any help appreciated,

Cheers

That would be very cool if possible as I have an Ipaq. Would be able to monitor everything from the palm of my hand :D

Although I'd want the 3SGE equivelint
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Not on a 4age, this is called 'live data' and is very useful for diagnostics. All 4age ecu's can give you is flash codes. :D

Wrong.

Late model toyota's do have live data output.
But I think only from 1994 onwards
We have a machine at work that will read it and can connect to a laptop to record functions.
Toyota do not display knock control though, only ever seen mitsi's show that.
Very interesting to look at but not much good for anything else unless your searching for a problem.

I have had it down the road on my AE111 20V blacktop and it shows quite well.

On a Mitsi it's used to get the A/F ratio and timing correct after upgrading injectors, it will show if the fuel pump is maxing out. it shows IDC, well in fact everything you need to know. It's the only thing you need to stop you from blowing up a turbo'd engine.

You can even set an alarm on it so eg. if the knock exceeds a certain level you can back off.

Or if you're like me and haven't wired up the dash yet, it doubles as one of them too :-)

I really gotta wire up the dash...

wrong. (about toyotas)

in the late model ae86 loom you can get many things out of the diag plug.
rpm, o2, injector pulses, fuel pump, etc

I can't remember all the points off the top of my head, but the signal is tee'd into and run up to the diag box, as per the loom we rewired for a megasquirt ecu.

can't remember redtop diag plug details.

Well! I was assuming that by '4age' he was asking about a 16V not a 20V!

sorry i thought you meant 4AGE's in general.

Some 16v's may have live data also but i cannot confirm or deny as i haven't actually tried.

late model ae86 (facelift) has this diag box.
don't know if AE82s do, maybe as they go on quite late.

Not all toyota's with the box with diag on it will do live data.
some have the box but not all the pins
Must have the TE2 and the TE1 pins in the plug for live data from memory.

Otherwise you can only see ox sensor, fuel pump on/off, and rpm.
