Knock Knock, Whats that noise!?

Postby marke » Sat Nov 13, 2004 8:22 pm

Hi all,
well there is a weird knocking coming from (ae101 levin) the "back" of the car, i swear its the back. ive had the cv's checked, its been to 3 different mechanics... basically they cant fix it? occurs mainly when i turn corners under a bit of throttle. i dropped it into a place last week and said just fix it, after $500 of "rear left wheel bearing replacement" it still didnt fix it, i brought it back and they spent a day going over "every bolt" basically this didnt fix it either. He said pretty much "dont come back if it doesnt fix it cause i dont know what to do" the speed of the knock is dependant on the speed of the conering too. anyone had something like this? i saw a topic re: another noise but that was in a straight motion not cornering..? well all help is appriciated!
cheers

Mark

Probably not, but have you checked you exhaust mounts?, one of me other cars used to get a funny knock when cornering, ended up being the exhaust just tappin the side

Are the tools for changing a tire secured? If not they can make a hell of a noise rattling around inside the panel. May sound kinda noobish but it may just fix your problem :D

Have you got 17's on ya car and have just recently got it lowered or got new tyres or alignment or something? Had the same problem on mine when i first got it lowered. Ended up that the wheel balance weight had been put on the inside of the rim of one of the rear wheels and was knocking on the strut tower. That would explain the noise when going round corners and is speed dependant.

mine had the noise with the bushes, but they looked like they were new. i had to get under the car (while not jacked up, cos if u jack it up on one side the sway bar is in use), and just pull on the sway bar, that made noise. changed the bushes - got rid of the noise. the bushes is a common problem on corollas/sprinters
