sweet as... i think staying with the factory air box is probly a better idea cos the old leggy gets pretty hot when its been driving hard and i wouldnt want to suck that into my air intake

You seem like a man that likes to have my kind of fun with his cars, over the years they have served me well, don't want all that mud and dust in your engine...

BTW, they are good cars. I have been in a barely modded RS that pulled 250km with 6 people in it, they go hard...

1. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 603362.htm Buy this for $4200 (cheaper than spending $5000 on yours). This gets you a 92 Facelift RS Legacy Sedan, (non of this auto shit).

Sell yours.

Spend the $ from the sale of your one on the RS in this ad.

I'd be surprise if it were a real RS. There are just sooo many fakes around, the real ones tend to have a bit higher of a price tag. Especially being that tidy.

You should take some of perverts advice, he talks sense unlike some other people on this forum. Having owned a few turbo cars now it makes sense to try each modification one step at a time to gauge it's effectiveness, starting low and aiming high is simply logical.
Panel filter is more than adequate for the stock turbo. Subarus seem to respond quite well to exhaust modification, which is no surprise if you've seen the size of the standard system. Do you still have the stock exhaust? If so replace it with at least a 2.5" exhaust and try to get the cat removed, preferably with a propper downpipe off the back of the turbo.
There's nothing wrong with the stock water-air intercooler on the legacies either, easily good enough for 300Hp+ but if you want to increase it's effectiveness further, try adding a bottle of redline water wetter to the coolant in it and run the pump all the time, given that the ej20 runs low compression and a short stroke design you will have precious little low down torque and more lag if you put a front mount on it due to the large piping lengths required. And as far as the ecu, as has been said a replacement chip will be suitable for a near stock setup for a few more horse and will still give you the reliability and practicality of the stock ecu.
If you can find a turbo from an RS 5-Speed they are larger than the auto ones and should get you close to 300Hp with a few other mods, or maybe even a td04/5 off a wrx, but you might want to ask some guys from a subaru forum if it will bolt straight on or not.
If you want to harden up your ride then apparently the spring rate of the RS springs are harder than that of the GT and could prove fairly cheap 2nd hand and along with 4 x new Kyb shocks that should help make your car handle fairly well.

Actually after having written all of that, and seeing the trademe link Graphite posted, you'd be wise to see if the owner still has it as it's a steal at that price for a mint stock facelift 5 speed with sunroof! and it's not to far away from you either.

ok for about half an hour i was $&#$% angry about finding that cheap rs but then i realised 2 things.... the rs has a sun roof which cuts ur head room in half which for 6,6 me is really really bad.... and i wanted an auto..... when you are as tall as me the constant shifting is not only annoying after a while its quite cumbersum....

I think even tho in the little boy racer part of my brain id love to have that rs in the sensible part of my brain i realise that if i did i would be even more inclined to thrash it and i wouldnt be nearly as comfortable in everyday driving situations...( which makes up 90% of driving time)

I am happy with what i have but id still like to tinker with the old GT a bit and get a few more ponnies out of it :)

Ahh fair enough, i know people of your height. so yeah the wagons alot more practical for your needs.
I'd be careful about how much power I put through the auto trans though.

actualy its a sedan but i still need the head room which is taken away by the sun roof (yes a sun roof lessens head room) and the auto just makes it easyer to drive since i dont have to try and find a way of moving my 1m legs around in a space designed for ppl half mysize..

Im terms of power im sure that the trans could handle 40 or 50 more hp and surely it would do it with more ease than the manual...?

Easy, you are on a tight budget, do as Twolitre said, start small.

K&N Panel filter $100-$150
Full exhaust, maybe 2.5 inch, removing cat and replacing with a resonator $500
Subaru Motorsport chip $400-$600

Less than $1500 and some good gains there.
