Downpipe and engine check light

Postby MyXsPtLk » Mon Jan 24, 2005 11:33 pm

Hey I just got my mechanic to put an Aussie dp on my gt4, and everything's done up good, the car goes great (very very nicely) and sounds much better, only problem is now the check engine light is on. He doesn't understand why either. The o2 sensor is on properly, he says there was some sort of cat temperature sensor but I've never heard of one? Is this right? And he showed me this plastic connector which was supposed to have been plugged into the factory dp but again I've never heard of that and seeing the condition of the connector (still in normal shape) I don't think it would have been anywhere near the cat cos wouldn't the heat from the factory dp just have totally melted it to nothing?? Anyway, anyone there ever have this problem?? Or any idea what's wrong with it? The car still runs normally, boosts fine, idles fine, starts fine, stops fine. Just the damn light. It's bugging me. Thanks for any info guys

Have you done the diagnostic (spelling?) check to find out what the fault code is?

Do a search on the board & you should be able to find the codes and how to run the check. You have to open the small 'diagnostic' box under the bonet near fire wall passenger side then using a small wire bridge 2 of the terminals - can't remember which ones, then once ignition is on the dash light will come on & off (like morse code) & give you a number which then can be checked against the fault list.

Hope that lame description is of some help. :?

By the way what was the cost of the Dump Pipe?

Cheers, Mark

the terminals to bridge are te1 and e1, you just turn the ignition to on with a paperclip/wire bridged across the two terminals and count the flashes, i dont have a cat temp sensor anymore, my mechanic just grounded mine when he fitted my Aussie dp.

btw BROZ they are $450aud + $35aud airfreight, takes like 2 days.
