resonator spacing

ok i got an ae101 trueno did the exhaust thing and it was crap so went back for a second attempt with the 2 resonators. they are really close together and i was just wondering whether this has any effect on anything??? i remember hearing the further apart the better somewhre?

Not that i know of...

all that i have heard is as long as you have similar (1-2"'s apart) sized resinators it will drum out a certain noise...

being different spaces apart wont make any difference.. but i guess, if you have alot of cash, you can figure out the best sizes to use so it gets the best note ;P like 1 14" and 1 18" lol.

but 2 resos and a free flowing muffler will be the best note you can obtain from a 20v... yet it still will sound kinda tinny, but no way near as bad as a honda ^_^

I don't think the further away the better. Well, it would probably produce a lower tone by allowing longer wavelengths to form within the exhaust...

But practically speaking, I don't think it'll make a heck of a difference.

Agree with you fully Cozmo. Shutting up any Honda is an absolute bitch to do. I had my system changed to 2 inch with 25 inch coby reso and 18 inch coby style muffler and it still doesn't sound right. ohh the money

Yeah I wondered the same about resonator spacing but I dont think it makes much/any difference. two of mine are with 150mm of each other then the third is about 1500mm apart from them.

So yeah it took 3 long 2.25' resonators in my GTZ to get the noise and tinniness down. I think it sounds quite nice now but i havent heard it outside the car so could be wrong (can any Chch members vouch for it?)

The best way to silence an exhaust is with a muffler rather than a resonator. A resonator is usually best for changing the sound, with some sound reduction.

Does anyone have the facilities to test this resonator positioning theory. Speaking from my limited acoustical/thermodynamic flow knowledge, each resonator will act as a sort of null point for any acoustics going on. Therefore, depending on what's happening between the resonators (straight pipe, curves, natural resonances and all that stuff i can't comprehend), you could tune the note of the exhaust. Each resonator would split the exhaust into sections.
One section before first res, one section between res's, and one section after the res's. By mixing these three (or more) lengths you could make any note you want. But the only way to do this is to try it...
If anyone had a way of testing this I'd be keen to see what happens. Because by tuning the exhaust resonances, you should be able to improve exhaust flow at certain rev ranges. Much like what they do on intakes. It'd kinda be that last (upto) 5% power you can extract on a streetable machine...

My AE101 GTZ is running headers into mandrel bent 2 1/2, then splits
by rear axle to twin mandrel bent 2 1/4.
The only I could get my exhaust to sound the way I wanted
( and I tried a number of combinations ) was to run 3 mufflers and a
resonator. The resonator is first in line with the first muffler welded
straight behind it. This combination was also the best for ground clearance
as my car is quite low. In Chch I would recommend Magoos Durham St
