Not likely to be oil as that has its own warning light.

Maybe you have a wiring fault which is causing the light to come on even though all your bulbs are ok.

But I suspect that one of the bulbs is out. Have you tried checking all bulbs when you have brakes on, and brakes on when headlights on etc?

dont get complicated yet, listen to mr revhead, check your back lights at night so you can see them all clearly, one will be blown but it can be hard to tell sometimes.

OK then,

the checker relay measures current flow through the bulbs to determine if they are all working. If not enough current, it brings on the fault light.

When the stop/tail bulbs get old they draw lees current than they used to and sometimes can drop below the limit.

Solution, replace all the stop tail bulbs ( probably 4 at $2 each)

that will fix it.

damn dont have the levin any more but, is the light off when you first start the car?. Mine was and it came on when you pressed the brakes, so i replaced the bulb and no more light came on. might work the same way if you get the light only when turning on the lights. otherwise you have a wiring fault and may need to see a friendly auto sparky

could be a brake fluid warning light, some have sensors on the resovoirs to indicate a low level. his description sorta fits this...

could help if you tell us what car you drive...

even better, just check dam the brake fluid level. then you can eliminate that option if its full. throw us a fukn bone.

That brings on the handbrake light.

hey kingcorolla - isn't ae101 like it says in the subject line enough to tell you what sort of car he drives:?: :?: Like Matt says, resistance drops in the old bulbs so the warning light comes on, even if they are still working.
See ya
