DIY side skirts

hey just wondering has anyone ever tried to make their own side skirts? someone suggested using the stuff that is used for side road marker plastic white things and use bog to shape it. any one ideas apart from "just buy some"? kinda looking for some side skirts for my SW20 MR2. most are 250 minimum for a pair which i just can't justify on spending for two pieces of wee plastic nor a single front lip for a spoiler, i mean for a boot spoiler i don;t mind. constructive commenst please. cheers.

I've seen skirts made from stolen roadside markers, and also from pvc roof guttering. The guttering actually looks quite good - if you add a bit of shape to one end nobody would ever know

It would be easier to use high density foam to shape it, and fibreglass over it.

i don't condone in stealing road safety devices to make side skirts cos i couln't bare to stand to find one of my good friends die one night while out driving cos the road markers i stole the day prior could have saved his/ her life. but yeah, i will try roof gutters, cheers snwtoy:D . mate said fibre glass is hard to work with and messy not to mention expensive for this sorta exercise .

drive around with roadside markers and get checked by a cop, officer gets down and bends over to have a close examination"son, did you steal those roadside markers from (insert street name) street"

while at it, if i made these side skirts myself, would i still be ale to get WOF without LLVT cos of modification bs rules?

Yep, no regulations about home made body kits

but Dr-X's suggestion is the best, fibreglass isnt that expensive, and is actually quite easy to work with. Just make sure you have plenty of ventilation.

Has yor mate ever worked with fibreglass? It's simple, and not htat messy. Yes, it's expensive, but at least it'll look good, unlike the mitsi above, which is what your car will look like if you use marley spouting

Theres nothing wrong with listing marley alongside apexi/nismo/trd etc on your door/guards.

I was looking the other day at marley spouting for my sw20, I think the best looking style would be the 'stormdrain' range or what ever it's called. It's more rounded and has a nice shape to it, the other style looks like it's from roman times or something.

I was thinking that the spouting might stick out too far, so cutting it longwise and overlapping it could work. If you have any success with this i'd be keen to see.

If you're gonna fibreglass foam I heard that Selleys No More Gaps (the aerosol stuff that expands) is good to spray, dry, then sand to the desired shape. Don't forget to use a plastic primer beforeyou paint it, and egt a can of colour matched paint, a shade off can look rude.

any idea what is the colour code for my SW20 MR2. it says kingfisher blue when i bought it. looks dark greeny blue. will try the marley spouting to see how it goes n post it up. cheers for all the inputs. greatly appreciate it.

Look on the front firewall, should be a plate there with chassis, trim and paint codes.

Fibreglass is really easy to work with, and it is reasonably cheap.
The expensive part is the resin, but it covers quite a lot.

I brought a 2 meter sheet and a litre of resin for $50.

So yeah.

mmm...... i can do you 2m of 450g chop strand and a few liters of resin, also not to forget enough MEKP to catalise the resin for half that price.

Fiber glass can be messy if you dont know what your doing, but with the right tools, ie: a roller, brush and acetone to clean up drips and spillages, its easy to become good a laminating with enough pritice
