White guage faces for ST215 Caldina?

Postby snwtoy » Tue Feb 01, 2005 9:08 pm

Has anybody seen these for sale anywhere?

I have done some extensive searching and can't seem to turn up anything - but I am searching for 'caldina'. Is the instrument cluster in the caldina the same as any other model toyota?

I'm also considering making my own if I can't find any readymade. Is it true you can buy electro-luminescent paper/material by itself? It's either this or trace the existing dials onto white acetate - but then I'll have to somehow combat light coming through the whole thing.. it'll make for a fair bit of trial and error - given how fragile and careful you need to be with the instruments I would rather buy ready made stuff...

Cheers

I found a supplier of EL diy guage kits - but not cheap - $98 US for the kit with the paper, 12V inverter and connectors. Then you have to design some sort of overlay with the numbers on it... eek.. time consuming and expensive.. .heh.

I might have to look into normal backlit displays :) I guess I'll start by removing the guages and scanning them at a high res.

The white face gauges are a toyota stock item on the facelift model caldina 2000 onwards. They also have the clear tail lights so maybe Mr Revhead could hook you up.

Cheers for that info.. I'll send him a pm.

In the mean time I've found a company in the US who make some really funky guages, just waiting to hear back how much for some custom ones - I think we might have to order a minimum of 10 :? I'll let you guys know anyway.. here's a preview:
(I'm pretty sure if you order the basic white guages you could customize with any lighting/needle colour you wanted)

Ok I've got it sorted with the supplier.

I am going to order 10 sets of guages (minimum order) from them.

The white guages by themselves are US$25 each. If you are interested I need to know within the next week or so.
My car being a 5spd, I don't know if the auto dash has a gear indicator on it or not - if so you will lose this if you get a set of these manual guages.

If you want something customized with logos/designs/colours/transparent/glowing needles etc this all adds to the cost for your guage only.
Go to www.importintelligence.com to see their range and what you can do.

Obviously if you order a set through me now you can get them customized, if I have to make up any excess to complete the 10 I will be ordering just plain white with blue numbers.

Any questions post them back here or in the caldina mailing list and I will act as a go-between rather than bombarding them with questions from heaps of people.

Cheers
Aaron

If you're looking for white face indiglo gauges for the celica go to www.speedhut.com they have both US versions (mph & low redline) and JDM versions (kph & 7000rpm redline). You can fully customise them with the colour, logo, graphics and fonts you want.

It's a US company but mine arrived within a week and were easy to install (only took a couple of hours).

So far I've had 2 expressions of interest.. hmmm... I was hoping for at least 5 - I don't fancy shelling out for 8 sets of guages myself...

Maybe I'll can the idea :?
