Interesting sparkplug find...

Today I decided to get some Iridum plugs for the hell of it.
Been told they last ages and are less likely to miss than your standard copper ones.

So whipped out the old plugs today and found something very odd.

The pic is a bit bad, but I don't have anything other than my phone to take the pic with.

The tower seems to have bent to one side somehow!

How on earth would this have happened? they were all straight when I put them in!

Excessive heat?

Bummer. You got told wrong. Nothing wrong with copper plugs at all.

Have a search on google for sparkplug diagnosis. Theres a few pages on it with pictures.

Never thought I'd say this, but I agree with Cozmo :D

well not really it might have only been touching enough to just nick the top of it and move it slightly just out of reach, or there might have been a foriegn part in the cylinder at the time??
i have seen this at work afew times.
1995 ducati 900ss with a 2001 fuel injected motor, ramflow intake, open pipes, polished wheels and afew other mods.

It's strange though... If it were hit by something, you're expect that it would be closer to the point, smaller gap.

If anything, the gap is the same, maybe larger. It looks as if it's been pushed from the side.

That and there's no evidence of it having impact with something.

Adamal, what plugs where you using? ie. Brand and model no. ?
Did you buy and put them in yourself?

The copper ones were NGK BKR6E 11. (Bear in mind I don't know my codes, I'm reading this off the plug).

I put them in myself, but didn't do them up super tight. Just tight enough really. When undoing them today, this particular one wasn't tighter than the others, which were fine.

yes alot of people do spark plugs up too tight.

check the service manual, the average tightnes specification is like 20nm.

i could almost do 20nm with my cock. :)

A similar thing happened to me in the 'rona, but my plug was all fecked up and there was no gap at all.

when u fitted them did you dropped them in the holes?
though that would normally close em up...

seen it a few times... even did it myself before i knew any better
