Wheel fitment

Postby Dr-X » Mon Feb 14, 2005 9:04 pm

I'm looking for some new (well, 2nd hand) mags for my car. My car is FWD (duh) 5x100, dunno the factory offset off the top of my head.

Will these fit my car, anyone? Also, I notice Subaru's are also 5x100. Will Subaru mags fit?

if its the correct stud pattern, spacers can usually help out with correcting the offset.

Well, 'spacers' are illegal if all you've done is chuck a few washers on your standard bolts.
You can, however, buy proper spacers which bolt on and have another set of full length bolts.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Which still require a cert, this law came into effect within the last two years. Any spacers at all, whether they be bolt on or not, require a low volume cert. :D

The problem with spacers is that the effectively 'shorten' the length of the studs - thereby decreasing the amount of thread available for the nut to tighten onto. If you do go down this route, the sensible option would be to fit longer studs.

OK, these mags have an offset of 46. I think my car is desgined for offset of 38ish. This means spacers are no good, coz the wheels will already be poking out too far, correct? The problems being that my current 17" mags are already pretty close to the guards, and it wouldnt take much movement in either direction to cause problems...

Any educated guesses as to whether these would fit?

edit: Also, aren't Diamante's 5x114.3? I find it odd that these mags are 5x100.

DR-X, the less the value of the number, the MORE they stick out.

RWD offset cars have an offset of around +20~35. FWD and 4WD cars generally are between +38 and +50.

I thought that Subaru were around +50 offset.

Uterus, 38 offset wheels on a car designed for 48 offset do not require a spacer, as they stick out further than usual.

You would need spacers if you were trying to put FWD offset wheels (ie +38~50) on a RWD car which is designed for +20~35, to clear the calipers and suspension as they will be sticking 'in' too far.

Wrong, the offset is the distance from the centre of the wheel to the mounting surface. A larger offset than factory means the wheel will sit inside the guard. But then it depends what width rim and tires came on it from factory and what you plan to install.

For comparison sake, you plan on getting rims 1" wider. If the rim is the same offset as standard you will have an extra 12.7mm of wheel either side. So you could get away with having an offset of 12 more and the outer rim will be in the same place but the inner rim will be 1" closer to the strut.

UTERUS, putting 38 wheels on a car designed for 48 will make them stick out alot more. Spacers wont be of any use.

Subaru 5 stud wheels are about +48 offset, Toyota 5X100 wheels are +38.

So with bolt on spacers Subaru wheels can be put on celica's, coronas......

This is a bolt on spacer on my ute. I have FWD offset rims on it.
