Are you sure its not twin cam?
Like the 1UZ, the 4AFE runs one pulley on the head, the second cam is driven off the first.

G = Wide angle DOHC (more power)
F = Narrow angle DOHC (more economy)

4A-FE DOHC 4/22.3 95-98 1587 115@6000 109@4800 81 77 9.5:1 JP

As your other post is regarding a 1999 4AFE, I'd assume these stats are the closest? 115bhp at 6000rpm seems a tad much, but meh.

If you go to the top of the tech section, theres a thread called,

"All you ever wanted to know about Toyota Engines"

Or something like that.

they didnt make 4afe sohc did they?

can we see a pic of your engine bay... if you have one just lying around sort of thing.

i highly doubt they kept putting in sohc engines into 1999 cars!!!

Are you blind? I just gave you the specs for the 4AFE, as provided by the Toyota engine page.

It is TWIN CAM!! The second cam is driven off a pully from the first, hence why it appears to be a SOHC.

And can I just say, from personal experience, Toyota themselves can be wrong sometimes, they're just people too.

If your leads go in the top, DOHC you got,
If your leads go in the side, you've got a SOHC ride.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.
