Hole in the firewall...

Postby Willdat? » Wed Feb 16, 2005 10:40 pm

I asked this on the ass end of my last post but no one seems to have noticed it so I'll just have to start a new topic!

We're about to start the silvertop 20v/T50 into AE85 swap...obviously the dizzy is going to be a pain...
At the moment the options are (that I'm aware of...if there's more let me know!)
1. Hole in the firewall...is it possible to get cert with a hole in your firewall!?
2. Aftermarket computer...hefty price or is there a cheapy option for this? obviously as we could't afford a real AE86 $ are a bit of an issue so yeah
3. KE7020Vwagons special brackets... viewtopic.php?t=22532&highlight=

Anyone with any experience would be much appreciated...or any advice

Cheers Will

Obviously your cheapest option is going to be the last one.
I dont rate your chances of getting a cert with a hole in your firewall, and even a Link is a few dollars more than those brackets.

As long as you seal the hole you make, cert is no problem. But obviously talk to your certifier before you cut anything.

Yeah we're just about to buy a mig welder so re-sealing the hole is a definite possibility (not just for certification reasons, but it's going to look a damn sight better!).
With cert do you start the consultation process with a certifier before you even start?

Its usually best to, find a certifier who is comfortable with what you plan to do as it saves redoing stuff.

Certifier said "As long as you put back in to compensate what you're taking out" basically will weld in a box on the other side...stops water getting into the interior too...

dont cut a hole in your car it can be legal but I have been there and its ugly try a megasquirt and edis as I am now. Or one day I may get around to making some more brackets, anyway its the thermostat housing that sticks out the most
