If you want to keep it Toyota, 1G-GTE is worth considering.

Because they are not a hugely in demand motor, they tend to be a little cheaper if you look around.

I think you could get the 1uz engine and box in for 2k(I dont know about space issues in a ke30 engine bay though). Mate here makes bellhousings and custom flywheel for w5*'s if you decide to go that way it all depends on how much work you can do yourself. paying people to make mounts etc would deffinately blow your 2k pretty quick

yes, as mister2 said, his mate can do alot of work himself.

So if he got the engine for $1k(yes they go for that if you look)
decided on what box you wanted.

w series box for $200 or less (if you look)

make your own adapter, $50 for materials

exhaust $200 for materials

wiring, you could do yourself with wiring diagrams.

You might even walk away with change depending on what oil and coolant etc you use.

Obviously then you may want to look at upgrading your diff and brakes, but then again thats not part of getting the engine in and running now is it?

If you need anymore info feel free to send me a pm

don't forget the fuel system (pumps, line, surge tank.. engine + gearbox mounts... radiator and piping.. clutch kit.. pedal box... the list goes on and on with more and more money

to be honest if you can get a ke30 with a 1uz in it driving down the road properly for under 2k i will eat my own poo

the 3sgte flywheel doesnt just bolt on they must be machined, ie the holes slotted or plugged and redrilled, not an option in my opinion

sr20det would be the way to go in my opinion. motor/box/loom from a s13/14 for 2-3k or less.
fuel pump , primer pump, lines, surge tank, misc fittings etc $350
hilux diff $300-1000(depends who u know)
custom driveshaft $$???(depends who u know again)
brakes, struts, brake booster etc all of another toyota ae85/6, cressida, corona, celica etc etc or even gtst/gtr brakes. well under $400
another 1k for misc stuff, exhaust, intercooler, radiator, piping, clutch, custom parts.
id say 5-6k and ud have a 12sec car, without modifcations to engine.
current: s14 silvia k's.
previous: ae85 levin 4agte, rt84 corona, kp61 starlet.

i want to do a 3sgte, but my flatmate wants a 4g63t,
currently running a 4agze turbo, w55, ae86 diff, etc

i have a mate currently doing a sr20det in to a ke35, there is nothing left of the firewall and tunnel to the hand brake, had to be full removed, and a custom one fabricated, does look good sitting in there on its mounts thou.

sr20 det or fj20 det - apparantly they fit straight on k series mounts (dont know about room though) that would b nuts! like syco4 the green ke20 with a sr20 det - massive intercooler on the front looks wicked.
