Postby ae86racer39 » Tue Mar 01, 2005 10:42 pm

have been surfn round the net lookn at articles on swaybars and am now a little confused, some people are saying that gts rear swaybars and the trd version are the same thing and measure around the 17mm mark, anybody want to comment on that one? I have just measured mine and its 14mm, so its an sr5 bar??? How do you pick the differences in the cars?also does anybody know where i can get a trd front swaybar and what their worth?

What car?

14mm is the same as an AE86 sizing..
21mm fronts for ae86

Sway bar rate goes up by the power of 4. So doubling diameter would give (a theoretical) increase of 8 times... Obviously you wouldn't actually double the diameter...

From what I've heard (and a bit of experience)...
Front bar increase will increase understeer (reduce oversteer)
Rear bar increase will increase oversteer (reduce understeer)

Unless your vehicle has a particular tendency you don't like, upgrade front and rear rates by same amount to maintain current handling characteristics while reducing roll.
BE WARNED. To much increase will cause wheels to lift. Check if bar you are buying is hollow also, as it will have a slightly different rate to a solid bar. Also there is a way to adjust preload by adjusting anchor points. But I don't know much about this.

Mr Revhead would be a good start for TRD bar.

Buy both...
That's a perfect set of upgrade bars to maintain the standard front-rear ratio...

or get a rear sway bar off a older celica, not sure how much thicker it is, but it fits straight in, looks like its about 3-6ml thicker, not 100% sure but it certainly looks alot meatier :)
