How to decode ae111 codes (bz-r bz-g etc)

Postby Mr Revhead » Thu Mar 17, 2005 6:46 pm

a= a series engine
e= corolla
1
1
1

a= levin b=trueno c=carib
c=coupe e=four door so when its ae=corolla be=sprinter ac=levin bc=trueno
m=5spd p=auto f=6spd manual
g= low spec (xz,ztouring) v=sports type bz-r, bz-v (before facelift) gt 4door
z= luxury spec bz-g bzt
f= 4age k=4afe

most of the above also applies to the ae101 sereis, and others

iv missed a couple out for things like the spacio cause i didnt really think many cared about them!
if you have a car with numbers that are different let me know and ill decode it for you 8)

to clear a few misconceptions up.....

gearboxes
BZ-R are all 6 speed manual.
BZ-G can be either maual or auto all 6speed after 4th 97
BZ-V can be either 5spd manual or auto, untill facelift in 4th 97 then they are all autos, but sports type but with out LSD. which i find odd. i have yet to see one of these.

diffs
BZ-R are LSD from factory
BZ-G are open if non s/s. prefacelift s/s are LSD. all facelift have s/s but are open
BZ-V are lsd if manul, autos are open

thatll do for now, any questions?

Your contradicting yourself....

*Bz-v were Sports type without LSD

then follow to say if they are manual they are LSD.

Last time i pmed u, i sent my chassie code and such, you replayed with *it is an LSD gearbox* etc.

So... are they optional? All lsd, or all open?

Read it again. If it's BZ-V made after 4th '97 then it is an auto with an open diff. It it was made before then and is a manual, it has an lsd.

Hmmm, so all BZ-G's supposedly have open diffs. That does go against the grain of previous ideas.

What about 6 speed BZ-G's and BZ-V's, were they a factory option then? Which means they bothered to put a 6 speed in the BZ-G but didn't put an lsd in it. Weird.

thanks, sorry, wee bit confusing there.

So bz-v, Pre 97 Manual Had LSD, after Had open.

Whamo.

Since the 6sp came from the Bz-r, id imagine all 6sp are lsd.

i havnt actually seen a 97+ bz-v anyway. But yeh, my bad.

did not know that about the gearboxes, thought they were all the same...

what about the XZ etc models, they have different chassie codes.... your explaination dosnt cover why. AE100, AE110 (AE111 Shape...) but whats different?

g= low spec (xz,ztouring)

ae100 and ae110 are different models.... ae100 is the 5a engined equiv of the ae101 and the ae110 equiv of the ae111. ae112 is ae112.
i left those out casue to explain all the extras there would take far to long.
and no one really cares!

:lol: Maybe it is a BZ-R that has been modded to look like a BZ-G....

No doubt your car was optioned up with an LSD, my carib is in the same situation, afaik they never came factory fitted with an LSD but it definitely has one!

From an earlier post on a similar topic Warwick mentioned the last letter of the transaxle code relates to the diff

a= open
c= LSD (Factory)

Don't forget though that there are plenty of people who fit an aftermarket LSD in so nothing is guaranteed until you pull the box apart and check it out for yourself!!!
