AE92 FX-GT : Upgrade options

Post by simonlenihan »

Ok, so my gf just bought a pretty tidy AE92 FX-GT. Its totally standard at the moment and it has done 183k. Have just replaced the clutch and cam-belt and done a full service, all fuids and filters.

What are the options for more go on a limited budget?

Mod the redtop?
Silvertop 20v?
Blacktop 20v?
4AGZE with supercharger or turbo charger?

What are the differences between the Redtop 4AGE and a 4AGZE, what would i need to convert the redtop for a turbo application running around 10psi?

the only internal difference is the rings and pistons. crank and rods are the same.

so rebuild it with ze pistons and slap on a turbo! but you will need an ecu change and larger injectors.

basiclly your not gunna get lots more grunt with out spending up large!

whats you budget?

not worth it.
gotta do all the same stuff as turbo. maybe fractionally cheaper. as theres prob lots s/c bits ppl ahve lying around. cept the s/c itself, they are getting tricky to find. and will cost as much as a turbo!

I've got a spare set of forged 4AGZE pistons and a set of 440cc GTiR injectors for sale if you decide to go down the turbo path. Probably want a link or something similar for the larger-than-standard injectors though

Like it was with the Lancer liftback?

You might just have to suck it up and leave the car alone til you have the money to complete the mods...or you'll end up having to sell another unfinished project.

Save your(and the GF's)money.

What sort of money do you consider stuff all?
If you are talking 1G or less than I'd just go with the common exhaust & filter route. Wont make a huge difference, just free it up a little. If you are talking 2k plus and can do your own work then maybe consider an engine swap or something...
Cant believe im still a member here.
