20v into a ae82 hatch

Postby evil_si » Sat Mar 19, 2005 9:48 am

just about to chuck a 20v silvertop in to my brothers ae82,

has any one else done this conversion?

i havent looked at the car yet so, any things to look out for?
things i should do first?

i think it will but can anyone confirm if the original 16v bell housing bolt up to the 20v?

I have done exactly this conversion..
I had no real problems on my one.
Use the bluetop engine mount
Modify the 20V loom
I previously had an AE92 gearbox in mine before i converted to 20V and its got provisions for the starter motor on both sides, so it will pay to check whether your one does too, 20V has starter on the intake but bluetop has it on exhaust side, thats your only worry. I know of a suitable gearbox for sale if you need one..
For the top radiator hose i couldnt quite find a suitable one from supacheap but i got some S bend which sits on the exhaust manifold heat shield.. its been like that for months with no worries
also, the 20v head is quite a lot bigger, i damaged my heater pipes when mine went in so be careful of that.
i can email some pictures if required..

i intend to run the original blue top bellhousing and starter, flywheel etc,
hoses arnt a problem, ill just make stainless ones,
the plan is to have it all cut in a day. which unless there are problems wont be hard
