After Market Air Filters

my k&n panel cost me 15 bucks off trademe. Came in box and everything from a guy that sold his car. Tested it going up a hill just outside of gisborne in 4th and 5th, noticeable difference in flow compared to old air filter (which was just a standard replacement one from repco only in there for 2000km). Fiddled with the box a little to get more air into it and now at certain revs it makes a whistling sound at the intake that almost sounds like a reallllllllly small turbo, heh or maybe that's just a squeaky belt that needs doin.

2E's make a nice little whine at about 5 grand too Seemed louder in my 2E-E than the carby ones for some reason...

K&N flows more by filtering less, just like any other filter really. They are only an effective filter if you keep them oiled properly which a lot of people just dont think about.

all part of maintanance! facts is there is no better thats easy to get. maybe some itg or pipercross ones.

those hks/trust etc mushroom type ones arnt worth the box they come in.

if you want to know what parts are best.... look at racing (not drifting or import drags) when was the last time you saw an hks or trust part on a serious race car? apart from the odd part you wont.
youll find wrc and nascar etc use k&n

The main reason for a pod is space. They filter a larger surface area with less volume taken from the engine bay.

I had the same problem with my 4age. Previous owner has just stuck a pod in there. Used to get really bogged down at the lights. Hmmm, can you can say HEAT SOAK.

I remedied this by grabbing a 4age airbox, cutting the entrance to fit the intake tract through it and my k and n now lives on the inside of the airbox. doesnt look any good, sounds the same, and hopefully it goes better. Dont have anything to measure results with, but the lights situation is much omproved.
