Just bought a 88 GTR. Its just a cheapie and I dont want to spend heaps on it. Any ideas on mods? (I was thinking about piping in some more air and replacing filter....)
The only real issue with it is an irratic idle. It pulses sometimes (seems mostly under breaking at slow speed and when warming up). Could it be electrical? It was imported in 96' and looks like someone has had added a few 'extras' in the electrical department (but have since been removed).
Low down she moves quick but not so great at higher reves. My previous car (Honda Integra..'cringe') moved quick when given the appropriate incentive. Is that just a Toyota thing?

Firstly make sure you get rid of the cat as it's 17 years old and will be choking the engine, at the same time you could find a set of ST182 factory extractors which just happen to bolt straight onto the older models, K&N panel filter should be enough but an appropriately placed pod should be fine.
Of course you will want to do all the basic maintenance like fuel filter, timing etc
