Righteo..
Car is KE70. Am looking at a decent repower, while maintaining reliability and driveability.. ie, no shitting diffs every time I feel like a skid!
I've searched, been sifting throughout TS resources.. to no avail. As has been mentioned before, I'm not after backyard I-heard-this mechanics, I need people who've done the conversion.. but any opinions would be helpful. Obviously, I'd love to go with the later motor, but parts are getting damn expensive. Ultimately, I'd LOVE a 20V rwd. Sooo...
I'd like to know about either conversion. 2T conversion, I've been told you can use the 2TG/TE71 crossmembers, but you have to change to TE71 steering, which is a pain in the ass, which I'd rather not do. Is there any chance that I would be able to keep the KE70 steering, and NOT have to weld up new mounts? The rest should be a bolt-in affair, wiring, fuel pump, gearbox mounts etc. Add to this the fact that 2TGEU's are getting damn cheap, for the whole package; ideally, this would be the most cost-effective way. I would also consider a twincarb 2T-B.
4AGE. I'd try and get hold of an AE70 (3-AU). Would I be able to use the crossmember from that, without having to modify anything? Not too sure what steering system it uses, would it be same as KE70? I'd be looking at getting a silvertop 20V, they seem to be cheaper than a RWD bluetop at the moment, and maybe a T-50 if I can find one.. failing that, I'd try find a bluetop, K50 or something. Whats' involved in this conversion? Wiring much harder to install over the 2TG loom? Compatibility with the TE71 dash wiring (tachometer etc?)
Rear end.. I'm not really too fussed on an LSD, but would prefer rear discs. I need to know what my bolt-in options are, Celica/Corona/Corolla anything? I don't want to shell out for a hilux LSD, I won't ever have that much power to justify buying one, as I said, I'm just after a nice streeter.
Or, failing that, I could just drop in a 12A, and be done with it.
Any help = MUCH appreciated, cheers!
