What engine for my KP60?

Postby bad20v » Fri Apr 15, 2005 1:11 pm

Ok, its time for an engine swap for my KP60. The 2k's getting pretty tired and severly lacking in grunt for the upcoming tarmac motorkana series in winter.
I was thinking bout putting in a 4k 1300 engine, standard or worked, and keep in the same racing class. Or maybe setup to the next class 1301 - 1600cc, and install a 4age. Maybe even a 20v like Quibel's got in his KP61.
So with budget of around $1000, I need some advice on what would be my best "bang for a buck" engine, and any advice on where to obtain the parts and accessories required to install it.

Cheers.

For a $1000 budget, you dont have many options, I would keep an eye out for someone selling a worked 4/5K as they come along quite frequently.

At the end of the day you most probaly wont have a chance at getting a 4AGE going for a grand. I just sold my worked 5K which dyno'd about the same HP as a 4age 16V for $850. So keep an eye out and something will probaly turn up.

The $1000 is just for the engine and installation parts. I will not need to add in labour coz I will be doing all the work myself.

Yeah, but $1,000 doesn't go far when you try sourcing an A series bellhousing and a K50 won't take that much abuse. Consider a T series engine, same work to put in except no injection to worry about (depending on engine obviously) and much cheaper bellhousings. Weight difference is really not that much.

just my 2cents worth - chuck a 12a rotary in it! will go insanly faster than a 2/3/4/5k engine and not to mention a T-series engine.
A little more work, but a lot more fun and RESPECT 8)

But On club-k there is a 5k engine forsale, so that could be a good idea as well.

12A puts you in over 2L class, and $1,000 budget would not even get close.

Sorry, but even though i have easy access to a 12a rotary, its sitting in my garage, its kinda out of the question in the overall scheme of things.
Pistons only please.

problem , how much does the weak-as-piss nissan box go for? or have they decided to build decent gearboxes now? the other issue is that it would bump him into the open class at most events.

If you don't want a Nissan box, put something else behind it. Not that hard in a RWD. No idea on a box, only ever brought them with an engine as a conversion kit. I do know of an S15 6speed in good order for $875NZD plus shipping from Oz...

I'd say get a 4K, and spend the leftover money (around $900) on modding it.
The ol' 4k's have quite a bit of potential!! (for a 1300)

or do the same to a 2T. ol'school all the way.

as will stated, you can buy an old p/r motor, freshen it, mod it for the budget you have and would have some change for gas money.

not too sure on price, but a G13b or a G16b Suzuki engine are pretty impressive. Last year NZ Clubsport junior champ has one in his Starlet. Goes good.
