rb25-turbo onto 3tgteu

Postby 3T-Rona » Tue Apr 19, 2005 10:39 pm

iv got a custom manifold fabricated for the turbo etc, and iv heard that on a 4age-turbo setup u need to restrict the oil so its not so higher pressure. any who on my 3tgteu especially wen its cold it runs in excess of 100psi oil pressure, and wen its warm etc runs on around 50psi.

Q: do i need to restrict the oil pressure feed to the turbo and if so how do i do this? (would crushing the pipe work.. lol 'RANGI MODS ONIT')

at the moment i have banjo fittings on the head and turbo and the line size is around 3/8 so it would flow abit of oil to it, but on the other side i have quite a large oil return.

Got a restricter for mine by getting a pushlock pipe join and heating it up with a gas torch and filling it with solder. Drill it out to about 2mm and go nuts.

btw, if you're doing that the easiest way is to get someone to hold it standing flat on a metal plate with something and heat the plate up too then you just stuff a fat bit of solder down the hole until its full.

Sounds dodgy but it works.

Either that or go to a wrecker and find a turbo restricter.

hrmm.. more description.. have never heard of 1 of these before. wats it look like and wat do i get it off?? pictures maybe :D

pushlock pipe join?? wot they look like? i do have a neat little joiner which has threads on either ends and u like crank the nuts up on the pipe and it pulls it in to a centre wedge which the [fluid of choice] flows through. would this work as well? if i did as u did with the solder on the centre wedge bit.. how well does the solder bond to the copper.. IE it wont like 'detach' and get sucked into the bearings or n e thing?

as mentioned those ball bearing turbos need bugger all oil flow. I think factory the restrictor is like 1.5mm (2mm) as mentioed above.

As good as the solder idea sound i dont particularly like it due to the low melting temp of solder. Id be looking to brazing or welding then drill. brazing preffered.

hey so wheres this 3tgt restrictor? i thought pressure wouldve been governed by the oil cooler samwich plate which supplies the turbo oil on the 3tgt

Aren't nissan turbos made by Garret?

If they are then apparently there is a factory restrictor inside the oil inlet

yes garret but if u look dwn the oil inlet on the turbo u can see the bearings, no restrictor that is.

I have an rb20 turbo on my 3tgt, goes very well
the restrictor is in the oil inlet banjo bolt on the turbo

3tgt doesn’t have a factory restrictor to my knowledge

oh ok. yeh i mite turn the old turbo into some sort of projectile..

i didnt have factory lines/fittings for the turbo so i have just matched thread sizes and bought sum fittings. i guess ill just do the 'fill with solder' trick.

another thought was filling the banjo fitting, then drilling a 2mm hole through it, would that work?
