Closed vs Open Combustion Chamber - Fuel wieght.

Postby RedMist » Sat May 21, 2005 9:41 am

As a progression from Acesnipers thread, I was thinking of the attempt to keep fuel in suspension and wondered if fuel weight was a significant factor in determining wither or not to run a closed combustion chamber.
Avgas is significantly lighter than petrol, I would speculate that this is because it is madeup of shorter chain hydcarbons, again speculating, this should ensure a better fuel distribution through the charge and enable the fuel to carry further without puddling on the cylinder walls.
I wondered if anyone has any ideas on the speculation.

My logic is flawed in regards to short chain hydrocarbons and density. But its most certainly a lighter weight fuel with higher octane rating.
