Ke70 / AE86 similarities
Hi everyone,
What do you think the weight distribution of a Ke70 sedan would be like compared to an AE86?
Am i right in saying the floorpan of the two cars are the same? I mean, practically all of the mehcanicals are interchangable, are there any practical differences between the two cars apart from the obvious such as weight / looks.
Cheers, Rob

Hey
Ke70 is leaf sprung and shocks rear ..
AE86/85 is coil springs an shocks ..
Having owned both and used both on seal and gravel ...
IMHO ... they are pretty similar ... GREAT !
The natural balance and steering that works well makes them very forgiving .. as long as they still have suspension and are not butchered
sold my DX wagon 2 days ago ..
still have my AE85 to 86 puzzle ..

really !! .. my mistake ...
I havnt been involved with any sedans .. way too nana for me
I never knew .. how strange that they are different on the same model ??
The toyota god must have been drunk that day !
Yes dx sedans and ae86 are exactly the same floor pan u will even find that wen u put in a 4age and a w55 box that the gearbox mount on the w55 or t50 will bolt straight up no mods , so in answer to ur question yes they are both the same weight distribution etc and everything can be the same if u use ae85 / 86 parts
I think Xylotrope got confused with the leaf rear end, as KE70/71/72 wagons (up to 1984 at least) had leaf rear end, while the KE70 sedans, coupes and liftbacks all had a 4-link rear with coil over shock.
They haven't got the same weight distribution, I can't recall the website, but from memory the TE71 sedans (closest thing to a 4AGE rwd Corolla sedan) had a weight bias toward the front, whereas the AE86's were more neutral. I have a drift video or two of a couple drifting, they definitely appear to be a handful on the limit! Obviously setting one up for drift would take a lot of fine tuning, IMO.
But who cares what it handles like, if it looks like that..

Yes, but with a heavier duty driveshaft, rear end, bigger gearbox, bigger brakes, better interior, the TE71 sedan is closer to a 4age sedan than an AE70, with little k50, single piece driveshaft, little rear end with drums, and budget interior. Surely a 2TG would only weigh a few kg more than say, a redtop 4AGE?

i got TE71 and AE86.. the 2tgeu look like 2liter motor after I saw 4age up closes and compare them side to side!
2 peoples can lift up an 4AGE, but I don't think so for 2TGEU
But they both good motor. no problem about the weight when drifting...
... just go real fast then you can't tell the different..

a/t/k E70's share front brakes, the weight differences between gearbox and rear ends and interior would be negligable anyway..
Best thing to do is get a TE71 with all the bling interior, chrome bits and running gear and 4AGE it, and lose the recirculating ball steering. then you get the best of everything (and closest thing to an ae86)

or you could get a carina..
but the big running gear, irs etc weigh the car down significantly, especially with a full tank and my fat ass behind the wheel.
meh, who needs a flash interior
