MEGAMEET 05 MOTORKANA

We are going to organise a Motorkana for people to participate in for the Megameet 05 on Labour Weekend. What I would like to know is which type of surface people would most like to do this on?

TARMAC: Easier to organise, can be done rain or shine, but ultimately harder on your vehicle ( tyres, driveline etc )

or

GRASS: Harder to obtain a venue for this, but less harsh on your vehicles.

Please let me know your choice so I can get this organised early.

Please dont post, if your not coming to the motorkana or not even coming to the Megameet. You will just be wasting our time and making other people unhappy.

Im not too fussed, either or, the car Im planning on racing will handle either quite nicely.

Tarseal is different, I havent done any GK's on seal.

grass is a lot safer as well there isnt quite as high risk of rolling. which is always an advantage when TS is concerned lol

tarmac is cool but is hella hard on boxes, diffs and tyres

Sorry dude but u have a higher risk of rolling on grass than tarmac. U dont get enough speed up on a tarmac motorkana to be able to roll, unless your a complete moron and your car handles really badly. On grass you are more likely to dig a wheel in to the soft dirt after a few cars have been through, especially on sharp corners. Ive had both my cars on two wheels on the grass motorkana's.

I dont know you mean by this? Its goin to be a motorkana, but you can still get a bit of speed up in one of these events. ( And I only need 1st gear for motorkana's).

Tarmac Motorkana: 1st gear sideways round the top cone on a slalom course: No chance of rolling:


Grass Motorkana: As above but on grass. Notice how the outside wheels are digging into the ruts left behind by the previous cars....

i still think grass is a better bet for this meet. it will be easier on the cars, and the chance of rolling... well itd take a SPECIAL effort

for those that want a grass one go out and tri to find someone that will let you toptally destroy a field

when you fai or realise just how hard that is maybe you will havw apreciation why tarmac could be a good alternative

Yes, it has 'traditionally' been done on grass, but like vvega and I have said, try finding a farmer that will let you rip up their field for a day. I previous motorkana's that I have been involved in where easy to organise as it was done through a recognised car club, Pukekohe Car Club, and the farmers are usually members of this club. Do you know any farmer's that belong to this club?

I will organise this motorkana according to the outcome of this poll. Majority of votes wins! This makes it fair on everybody.

If more people want grass, then a grass motorkana it will be.
If more people want tarmac, then a tarmac motorkana it will be.
If it is basically a 50/50 vote, then I will organise an event that has the easiest options available to us at that time.

Nah, dont need them, got new springs in d KP60 now. Lowered it 60mm.

Funnily enough i do.... none however are in your area..

Finding one is possible, but its not going to be delivered on a silver platter for you. Seems "luck" is on our side when wanting to do grasskhana's as there are a couple of farmers in the Wellington area who are more than happy to let us come rip up a paddock.. 2 to 3 times a year even.

If its 'too hard' to find a grass paddock, why give people the option in the first place?

I say, do what you wanna do.. and whats easiest for you to organise, since you're the one giving your time up to make it happen.

Its not too hard for me to find a paddock, or a tarmac area, its just the organisation of it is different. I already have two farmers on board with paddocks and an area set aside for the tarmac motorkana.

I just thought it would be nice to be a bit democratic with the choice of surface. Especially since alot of people have to travel a far distance to the Megameet.

i hope ppl are taking into account the wear and tear on cars during a tarmac event... think of what a day off handbrake turns and wheelspin will do to your tires

I would hope so. I went through 2 sets of tyres on last sundays tarmac motorkana. It was at the same place we will proberly have this one.

At this stage it will be a Tarmac event.

i think you will get a very small turn out if thats the case.....

What car are you bringing up? If its just tyres your worried about, then I might be able to loan you a set for the day.
