Idle Problem - 3SGE

Postby EssDub » Sun Jun 12, 2005 2:33 pm

Hi all :)

I have just got my new car, and its mint apart from one small problem.

Intermittently, the Idle speed rises and falls. From cold, once the negine is running, it reaches aroun 1600rpm (normal) and drops slowly to around 900 - 1100rpm. However, after driving aroudn for a bit on a warm engine, the idle goes up to around 1600rpm again. I have reset the ECU, (unplugged the battery for 1/2 hour) and that has made it a little less common than before, but it still happens :(
Could it be the throttle body itself? maybe the butterfly has a load of crap on it and is staying open, or is it something to do with the electronics? Thanks in advance guys :S

throttle body

yeah clean out throttle body ,they get dirty from the engine blow-by breather,I have done this on many cars, solved ldle problems everytime.I take the throttle body off,and clean with petrol&clean-up brush, get it spotlessly clean. A cheap and easy repair to do.

Hi guys, i had a mechanic see the problem today at North Shore Toyota, and they've quoted me $500 to do the job 8O 8O

They said they'd replace the thermostat, clean the throttle body out, and do something with teh idle controller :?

Are there any cheaper ways to have this done? That brice is waaay over what i was thinking it'd be :x

Any input on where to go, or even if any of you lot know how to do it, woudl be appreciated :)
