3 point strut brace? extra rigidity?

I saw a picture of an aftermarket strut brace on an ae111 levin that got my attention. It had three points of attachment. The standard ae111 strut brace mounting point on the firewall as well as a bar joining both strut towers.

Most aftermarket ones go strut tower to strut tower.

My ae92 came with an aftermarket strut brace from tower to tower. After seeing the photo of the ae111, I decided to make my own. I brought a standard ae92 brace and Im using that as well as the aftermarket brace.

It feels a bit stiffer up front, less lateral body roll, But is it theoretically any better to have the extra brace?

What do you guys think?

Triangle is the strongest shape, there's the benefit right there!! I believe the factory set up is better than simple strut to strut so incorporating both has to be the best idea :idea:

strut to strut stops movement relative to each other but not the firewall.
firewall to strut stops movement relative to firewall but still allows movemenst relative to each strut top.
both together ties it up nicely 8)

so each on does something, but both tegether are best

hmmm, should've made the end plates higher so that the cross brace was straight and not bent, either that or used a thicker (taller) bar to compensate for the bends at either end, because those bends, particularly the sharper one on the driver's side, will bend more under load than you would think. It's still a good design, I just think it looks like they were attempting to make an "ultimate stiffness" brace, and could've done better :) Also the way that triangle has different angles on either side, coupled with the sharper bend on the driver's side, means the driver's side tower will have slightly more flex than the passenger side :)

Strut braces are the bizniz. :D

why not head down to a local engineering shop, and get a peice of metal welded between the two points on the factory item?

oh, and have u an ae101 with a blacktop?

Thanks mr revhead, you explained both have their advantages.

Well I know have both, but they are just layered on top of each other.

Any benefits of welding them together?
And can I post pics straight on here, or does someone need to host them? Then i can post pics of my setup?

not really any point welding them together, layered should be fine provided the studs that hold them onto the strut top are not unduly stressed by having too thicker plates bolted to them

when fitted i noticed the doors would creek as much when going up and down driveways with one of the rear wheels off the ground :D
