4agze and intercooler piping collapsing?

Postby TWSTD » Wed Jun 15, 2005 7:08 pm

A customer of ours bought some HTS bends off us and installed them on his 4agze powered race car. I got a call this evening saying that when they fired the car up the silicone hosing collapsed in on itself. Now the reason for this is pretty obvious - theres a strong vacume inside the pipes... my question, however - is WHY is there vacuume in those pipes? Surely there should not be that strong a vac in the intercooler piping? Its almost as though the air filter is super restrictive or something?!? Either im missing something quite obvious or theres a problem with this setup!

Advice welcome!

well on a GZE (assuming it's still running the SC) the supercharger, intercooler, and all associated piping is AFTER the throttle body, so when you close the throttle you would get a decent amount of vacuum in the pipes.

What mods has it had to the intake system. If it has had the BOV removed or blocked off, then at idle there is huge manifold vacuum.
The BOV or bypass valve is supposed to let air bupass the supercharger at idle and when not boosting. Any hose in particular?
If it doesn't fit, force it.
If it breaks it needed replacing anyway!

if front mounting a gze the pipes need to have very small gaps i.e less than 10mm, and i wouldn't use reducers, especially the type thinner than samco, If you want to move the t/b to convention end of manifold location you will need very high flowing bov and very good hose clamps

as all fours said,

All the intake pipes are actually part of the inlet manifiold.

So you have manifold vacuum in all them during idle and cruise.
