Mark 2 Turbo without enough boost.

Postby pervert » Thu Jun 16, 2005 2:20 pm

I now have in my possession a pretty damn ugly car, its the turbo Cressida/Corona that Cozmo used to rattle on about all the time.

Anyway, last night I wanted to see how much boost it would run, so I unplugged the wastegate line off the turbo end and got in to do some freeboosting ( 8) ), to my dissapointment, it boosts to about 9/10psi then just cuts out.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing it to cut out? I really don't give a flying $&#$% if it blows up, I just want to run about 14psi or so for however long it lasts. It goes pretty well on 6psi for such a tank, so 14psi or so should be even more fun.

Fuel cut? Boost cut? Leaning out?

Any ideas as to why it would be cutting out, and possible remedies would be much appreciated, provided they don't come from Cozmo (no offence)...you've told me all you 'know' already... :D

very likely to be fuel cut... tried install a boost controller in an rx7 series 5, turn the boost up to around 14 psi, engine just cut out when hit 4000rpm...

is it a hard cut.. eg like hitting a wall?

14psi will probly run lean.. could spend 20$ and rig up a extra injector to prolong it.

How about... instead of screwing up a beautiful car like a Toyota Mark II you sell it to me for a good price.

alternatively, blow the thing up and I'll buy it off you at a really cheap price...

is it the 1G-GTEU?

Ok, A) pervert, shuddup :) i can say what i want, and you may come across something that someone else may *reference off* to help you.

First of all, follow the vac line running from the same hose as the boost gauge, and follow it to the solinoid it runs to. unplug or cut the wiring running from this.

Its either the Boost cut solinoid (like my old leone), or its just a light on the dash when you come on boost... one of the two, but either way, cant hurt to unplug it!

second of all, it already runs a 7th injector, its slap bang in the middle of the intake manifold, simply run a 12v supply to this, and id imaigne shed drop in bucket loads of fueling :).

shes not worth much pervert... things that cant get warrents, cant get warrents... and yes, thats my wet blanket because you got it from me for dirt cheap :).

No offence, but running 12V to the injector isn't the best idea. Usually the injectors have 12V to them already and are grounded by the ECU to turn them on, also they are pulsed an just holding it open is likely to simply burn it out.

Does anyone know if the boost cut is ever controlled by the amount of air detected by the AFM or is it usually just from a separate source from the manifold?

well jeeze man i dont know, strip both wires, pos and neg, run through a switch that starts pulsing at the same rate of your usual injectors or something, with a virable resistor, so you can increase fuel flow, im sure dse will have something that will work.

hey, think you can just get a relay that will open and close that quick? run it through a switch, so click the switch, every time the relay (other injector) pulses, it pulses that one.. but i highly doubt a normel run of the mill relay will pulse that quick :S

does it really matter, hes going to blow it to bits... better sooner, id rather see pix in a week, than a year :).
