The Simesed ports on the mini are more than a little weird in regards to flow. You can quite easily get one cylinder robbing the other of fuel/air so end up with one cylinder running lean one rich and your common AF reading correct. Both cams and headwork should only be completed by someone who has done extensive work on these engines.
Unfortunately I havent worked with these engines before and can't recommend anyone to complete said work.
Have you tried contacting the racing Mini scene? "Mini 7's" in the UK, I have no idea what they call them here.
The answer is Helmholtz!

Yeah i'll have a talk around, i just want it to run a little better.
I know what you mean Redmist, 2 intake ports and 3 exit ports........
Lotus made a twin cam head for them which i would dearly like, but they're worth more than the car!!!!! they have also developed a 4 port head for the mini, not sure who but still quite expensive.......

Lyn Rodgers in Howick has a great deal of experiance with the 5 port Mini engine.

Also the 8 port head you are talking about is the Arden head, it is an alloy 8 port crossflow design. Link.

Other options are the Twincam 16v heads from KAD and Jack Knight in the UK, although it looks like JKD have discontinued the 16V head they used to do. KAD.
