idle motor

my idle motor is $&#$% or thats what i have been told on my mr2 (4agelu) and im not to sure how to find it or how to fix it aye , when i stop my car and leave it running it will idle at 2 grand and sometimes 1 and a half grand and then will go up to 2 grand and back down to one and a half ... etc, any assistance in this matter would be greatly apperiated

hmmm i viewd a old pop up light integra yesterday with the same fault. Is it just when it heats up or is it an all the time thing?

Sounds more like a vacuum leak.

I didnt think the 16 valves had an idle control motor?? Don't they use a wax pallet for cold start idle? (I dont have cold start on my race motor, so cant help much)

Yeah you are right redmist, they use a wax pellet type. Could be a vacuum leak, or it could be that the valve is stuck, and the cold air idle valve is open all the time. The computer will cut the injectors to stop the over revving.

Try for vaccum leaks with some engine start.

The wax pellet, is underneath the throttle body. You will see 2 water pipes that go into it. That is it. Fixing it costs alot, $180 from toyota (pm mr revhead), or try getting a second hand throttle body. But you don't know if that one is stuffed as well.

yeah its all the time , what will happen is that it will ideal at 2 then at 1 and a half then at 2 ..... etc , yeah i will check that out
