Thoughts on Jamex springs?

Postby Sav » Wed Jun 29, 2005 11:41 pm

Just been to total performance in petone and got a quote on getting the superstrut celica lowered.

was $595inc

and the shocks machined if needed $300

anyone had experiance with JAMEX springs before? any thoughts is great.

Cheers Sav

Ive used Jamex before and found them good. I liked them more than kings with the same drop.
Not sure if price is alright or not though...but I do all my own work. I would have thought closer to the 500 then 600 side

I had Jamex's in an AE82 GT, and found them far too soft.

Yeah I know afew people that have had them and they said they were too soft.. After awhile they end up dropping the height of the car even more they have found also..

I had Jamex's on my AW11, and I have them on my st185, both have marks on the springs where the coils have contacted each other. Whether that's a problem I don't know, perhaps it's just the nature of progressive springs?

We have jamex's in the 86, sure they're softer than our old cutties but it handles so much better now. At the track we have heaps more traction and have probably chopped a few seconds off our lap.

They are OK, dont give an even drop in my experience though.

They are firm enough for every day use. If you going to track days every now and again I think you would find them too soft. But then again, if you are doing that you cant expect miracles from a $400 set of springs

wow lots of negative feebback on these springs.

just hard to find some springs for the superstrut that will go lower than the 30mm that the trd ones are.

i might give the jamex a shot at 40-45mm and not worry about going anymore if they do start to say, it might become a problem in the future.

I use king springs on the track (in a couple of different cars), and am happy with them :). Way better than the Jamex springs I had.

I'm intending to try TRD springs at some stage too.

i have only used kings, they seem to do the trick, made the supra handle like a car instead of an whale.

i went with new shocks as well tho. (kybs)

my fx has been lowered, but i dont know what springs they are, they seem to be ok.

Ive used Jamex in the levin four about 4 years now and they aren't too bad at all as an everyday run of the mill spring. Car handles pretty well on the open road altho has not seen any track action apart from the drag strip.

Would agree that they are slightly soft but thats not too bad on a fwd with a fair bit of power.

have used kings before and found them to give a very firm ride. Would recommend them if thats what your after.

Also should note the Jamex springs on my MR2 lowered the back more than the front, and even then didn't lower it all that much, but was much better than the cut springs thanks to the previous owner.
Here it is with the Jamex springs installed:

On my GT-Four they lowered it quite significantly, probably 50-60mm
