My AW11 runs a 4agze from a 1991 Levin, and I use Mobil 1 5W-50. As far as I'm concerned, it is THE best. On the test day last October I overheated my engine on the track (read temp guage as far to the right as physically possible  ). The oil protected my engine beautifully. No damage was done to my engine (not even a blown head gasket 8O ). I've since used that same oil to compete in 4 club race days at Ruapuna, and the engine's still in good condition and doesn't drink/burn any oil.

My AE86 operating temp is off the gauge  .
Nah but seriously, my needle has been off the gauge sooooo many times (I really need to pay a bit more attention :P ) I was using castrol GTX (although this is a 16v 4AGE).

for ae86 /4age engine, once the factory water temp gauge needle sit right in the middle or more, say bye bye to your motor.
They shouldn't go to the middle.... they should sit "just" before the middle.

Well, this is many of us with ae86 running 4age highly believe in...
so pray for your gauge that it is not working well. :D

drifter4ag know alot about it.. countless 4age's he have killed

I think the gauge is working alright because the temp usually goes back down after a while of being off or if I go really fast on a straight. It only goes right to the end of the gauge if it stays at 8,000rpm constantly around corners. I think the thermostat is broken because it does it if im at the lights for too long and if its just idling aswell.

on the ae111, ive used titan 10w 30 from bnt since ive had it.

never used much oil (about 1 8th between changes, maybe a bit more if i give it stick etc, but yeh, not much imho). and yes.

Changed every time with a TRD oil filter.

I run Durablend with my aftermarket cams. No issue.
Used to run Mobil 1 with the 20 valves. Ran out of water once, heat siezed the engine, couldnt even unlock it with a 4th gear tow. Returned to CHCH from Auckland, pulled the engine, whats this, ITS TURNING. Put it back in and ran it for another two events. Ran beautifully.

Yep we can definately get Penrite in NZ, I run the starlet on it and have found it fantastic especially on the track as the viscosity reduces the risk of spinning a bearing quite significantly.

Before that I was running Castrol R Synthetic, but yeah perfer Penrite

I use Pennzoil fully synthetic (5W-50) in my 3SGE. Runs very smoothly and has a slight increase in torque over other stuff I've tried, such as 10W-40 Valvoline Racing oil.

I'd also recommend using STP engine flush next time you change your oil. I'd only use it once every 2 or 3 oil changes.
I remember the first time I used it.... You should have seen the thick gunk that came out! Was like slime!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

im told total oil is one of the best, mobil one is only expensive because it was designd to run in freezing temps i believe, wasted resources

when my cars up and running, ill be running total with powerup engine additive, i have been reading too many good stories about that combo to turn to anything else

www.powerupnz.co.nz if anyone else wants a read

sh*t yea, the stuff i use is 25W-70 even almost stopped the smoke from my turbos blown rear seal  almost

Yep thats the same one I use. Even stopped the smoking in my partners car........ that was until he free boosted his ct9 up to 2 bar

Cant go past it and its so reasonably priced, at least half what I use to pay for R synthetic :D

And I use Amsoil engine flush every other change too, surprising how much c*#p builds up in the engine. Not so bad now but the first time I am positive I saw solid masses coming out

I use castrol 10w-40 gtx magnatec in my 20v (ae101) & its seems to be great in the engine, makes it run quiter too, especially on start up. I used to use mobil 1, but it only seemed to last about 5000k's before it started being drunken by the engine. This stuff seems to last the full 8000ks.

Isnt there some sort of new engine flush stuff that disolves all the crap that builds up? So it doesnt get stuck in annoying places in the engine? I remember seeing it somewhere, i think it was kinda expensive though.
