I originally posted this on
http://www.club-k.co.nz after collecting a large number of chassis codes from members there. Have posted it here to spread the info among the rest of the KP community.
I.D. codes start with the letter(s) for the
Engine family.
K P60RPGKRS
The second letter is the
platform type.
K
P 60RPGKRS
The next number is the
model generation.
KP
6 0RPGKRS
Each new generation of the starlet has added 10 to the old model code to get the new model code.
The next number is for
engine size.
KP6
0 RPGKRS
O=2K 1000cc
1=4K 1300cc
2=3K 1200cc
If there is an
"L" or "R" after the numbers but before the dash:
KP60
R PGKRS
L= Left Hand Drive
R=Right Hand Drive
Blank=Right Hand Drive
Wagon models are supposed to have a
"V" before the dash, have confirmed this on two different wagons:
First code after the dash is the
model type based on the same platform.
KP60R
P GKRS
This code may be missing if this platform is not shared with any other model.
Next code is the
body style:
KP60RP
G KRS
G=3 Door Hatch
H=5 Door Hatch
X=4 Door Wagon (confirmed from two different wagons)
The next code after the dash is the
transmission type:
KP60RPG
K RS
H=3(?) Speed Auto
K=4 Speed Manual
M=5 Speed Manual
The next code is the
trim level or grade:
KP60RPGK
R S
R=Standard
D=Deluxe
N=Mid Level General
S=Sports, normal performance
The next code is the
engine type:
KP60RPGKR
S S=Single Cam, Single Carb
C=Single Cam, Single Carb, Emmission Controls
E=Single Cam, EFI
Hope this helps everyone decode their starlets.
http://jnc.farpost.com/data/framno/index.htmlJust put in your chassis number and it tells you when your shell made. I needed to added a dash after the KP60 and then a 0 before my chassis number as it is meant to have 7 digits.
Note, this will be different to the date on your chassis plate if locally assembled as that is the assembly date NOT the shell manufacturing date.
