Celica ST185 Amp Wiring, Little help?

Postby Kevorkian » Sun Jul 31, 2005 11:51 pm

Obviously somebody has run power cable from the battery to the amp be it in the boot or in the cabin. I am just wondering where the best place or easiest place to get it through from the engine bay would be.

When I installed the amp in my previous car it was a pain in the ass and I had to pull off the bootie in the engine bay which makes sure the cabling for the computer (which was behind the glove box) was waterproof. And holy hell was that a mission and a half :P

Just wanted to know if anyone had any good idea's of how to get this power cable run through... cheers :)

Just look for rubber gromets in the firewall. I went through the same hole as the loom does. (probly not reccomended tho).

Passenger side, large grommet running a large wire loom into the cabin.

Take a craft knife and cut a small slit into the grommet, be very careful as you don't want to punch a hole in the grommet.

Feed wire through grommet and then push down past behind the AC unit. May want to continually check where the wire is going so may have to pull up carpet (shuold be able to see wire though).

Only problems you may have is if the wire catches on the firewall sound deadening.. if so , take coat hanger and feed it up behind the SD behind the AC.

I have run 2 guage wire via this method with no problems :D

Best of luck

even better, if you take off the inner guard on the passenger side, there's a wiring loom running along the guard, which has extra unused clips on it, perfect for holding large power cable. Then there is a large unused grommet just above where the loom enters the cabin, which you can cut a hole in and feed cable though :) I ran my 1 gauge through there no problems. Tidy and stealth :)

yes, i have seen those extra clips. it was almost like mr toyota had been thinking about running 1 gauge to the boot

My mk2 had them as well. Maybe its quite common
