Tom's ecu Questions?

Postby rowan » Fri Aug 12, 2005 4:39 pm

Hey got a tom's t.e.c.s. ecu with my blacktop 20 valve, just wondering if anyone has experience with this ecu, or has any details about what it can do? as i can't find much info about it.
Also offers or swaps on it could be of interest.

enjoy the japlish......

id say you have an earlier version of the above, probably similar to the SARD ecu i have. is it in a stock ecu case?
if you look inside youllprobably find a stock cicuit board with an extra platform added that holds a removable/reprogrammable chip....

it may have been caliprated to a certain engine, did it come with the car?

Sounds like it's pretty useless without the ROM burner.
The answer is Helmholtz!

unless it was set up for that car, or if like mine it actually makes a difference!

go to the next dyno day in your area, see if they will let you do a back to back run

it came with the engine i purchased and i know it was run in the car with the engine before i bought them together, the ecu looks just like your normal ecu, except it is a toms version.

Rowan, as the agents for TOM'S we don't push the sale of these ECU's.

If it's an early one it must be returned for reprogramming. If a later version we can supply the data writer to enable the ECU to be reprogrammed but it is largely incompatible with any other that your engine tuner will have.

If you were looking seriously at replacing your ECU with a fully programmable one, for the cost and hassle involved with this item we would recommend you look at a LINK.

But as Warwick has suggested, there's no harm in trying it out and comparing it with the STD.
