Wiring in a second battery

Postby overcast » Mon Aug 15, 2005 5:20 pm

I know this is pretty simple, but I am wiring in a second battery in the near future and am sure I want to connect them in parallel. Is this correct? Oh its a 12v system ona KE70

What is the extra battery for? I take it you have a large stereo setup?
Wire in parallel, may be worth looking at an isolator system so that you only flatten one battery if you leave the stereo going. Personally I would just stick to a single one, quite easily fitted a 630cca NS70 battery into mine.

And thanks Callum, much appreciated!

If you do want to run two batteries on a standard alternator go and buy a VSR (voltage sensitive relay) they are designed for marine applications (available at places like burnsco)

what they do is supply current to charge the second battery only when the first one is charged. this will mean that even if you run the stereo hard enough to flatten one battery the second one is still ok. the first will only charge after the voltage has come back up after you start the motor and get some charge back in the main battery.

This was the advice when I was asking a similar question.

Dont forget to use thick wire for the wiring.

Correct me if If wrong guys but you should be looking at around 2-4gauge? Maybe 1gauge if your rich and pedantic.

2ga should be heaps in most cases. Twin runs of 4ga in mine from the boot seems to do the trick
