My VIN plate, thing - Models no's etc..

Postby MrBeef » Tue Aug 16, 2005 11:42 pm

Hi, I just had a closer look at the VIN Plate (is that what it is) that shows the model of the car, engine code and frame number etc..

mine goes from what i remember

Model No. AE92-AMEC or something then 1442
Engine no. 2E-something

Frame no. EE90-something.
THAMES ASSEMBLY PLANT

The fact that they got the engine model wrong is a bit annoying. It is a 4af, as stated on the front of the engine, just below the rocker cover.

Now, i am curious because I would thought the frame number was AE92 also.

Oh yeh, just to make things maybe a lil, clearer. On the back of the car it is
Toyota Corolla 1.6XL.

So, what is a 2E engine? 1300?

Also picture of my car is in my profile if you would to see.
Any last words?

Probably. Looks like whoever has been doing the warrants hasn't noticed that the factory engine is the wrong one! lol

what number is on the block of the engine (ie 4A-something) it would be funny if it matched the number on the plate (apart from 4A bit)...

acording to the AE92 chassic number, car built in 1991 Dec or 1992 Jan.
There is nothing on EE90 model. Someone must be drinking/drunk when they stamp the plate! :D

Maybe someone cooked the 2E, and transplanted a 4AF?
Odd that the chassis is an AE92 though :? So technically you could whack a 4AGE in there and not need a cert.

The 2E isn't 1587cc as printed on the same plate. So I doubt it's an engine transplant. Looks like the bigest stamping error to date!

the model number relates to a 4af. the "u" is the engine code "u" = 4af "f" = 4age.

id say its just a wee cock up, all the other numbers etc relate to a 4 door sedan, 4af etc etc

nah its an original engine, just a cock up by the nippons. All is cool - just a little curious heh. So in future dates, instead of reading the frame no. i will read the number off the firewall yeh?
