You could just drop by a local mechanics when they are not busy- any decent nice place will have a listen and give you an indication without charge, my mates used to do it heaps.

what does the noise sound like and approx where in the enginebay is it comming from?

mite have been the 'mccanics'...hmm, I feel like mc'd's now lol.
but yea, spelling means shit and people textise their words all the time. Can help get more replies though granted.
Cant believe im still a member here.

i'd say you don't necessarily need a mechanic. people who know cars well can usually put forward suggestions.
might help to explain the noise

yeah the noise is a slight ticking when i first take off at low revs normally up hill and when i change from first to second , i dont think its cvs but it seems to be coming from in the engine bay around the bottom of the engine i think, the car is a 98 levin bzr 6 speed manual.

Yeah dude, mine used to do the same thing. Check the rear engine mount or the small rubber exhaust mount that sits on the rear of the front subframe. Also, if you have the time check that all your front subframe bolts are done up properly. After I had my gearbox replaced, I noticed a clicking sound in that same area, and the subframe bolts were all a little loose. Make sure they are properly torqued up.

Proberly the best thing you can do is take it to a mechanic's and put it up on a hoist and check everything underneath it. I did that and found that alot of things weren't as tight as they were suppose to be and the exhaust mount was completely stuffed. I don't have any funny noise's now. :D

time for new front and rear engine mounts for you. the rear one is a bastard to get out so i would advise making it someone else's problem!
currently beating - AE101 Sedan, blacktop/6spd, tein coilovers, braided lines, cup holder, and every other bloody thing possible.

Had to get my snake armed mechanic mate round to get it out. he managed to get it out with the subframe in place.

Don't get too worried just yet. take it to a well known suspension place in your area, and get them to check it out for you. shouldn't cost you anything to do so. better than just guessing what it might be and stressing over it. :D
