where is the thermostat located?

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Thu Aug 18, 2005 9:14 pm

where exactly is the thermostat located on a 4age bluetop, both FWD and RWD. i dont think ive got a thermostat at all, or if I do its possibly faulty. reason being is if my car is at an idle for a few minutes it will warm up to normal temperature but as soon as I start driving it the temperature will come all the way down to cold... :(
ive had a mechanic check it out and he doesn't think i've got a thermostat at all, but then again he wasn't sure exactly where they were located.

cheers

Theyre a big cunty lookign thing, quite big and bolt to the gearbox on the FWD. Not sure about RWD though. For mine I used a thermo housing from a FWD 3A and used and aftermarket 4AGE thermo stat in it, theyre pretty compact.

Just check your water line for a thermostat housing, check from the water pump to your radiator. If its just straight water piping you wont have one.

The fwd thermostat lives in a housing that should look just like this:

It sits on top of the gearbox beside the motor.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

so is it a part of the water pump, or just located next to it?

It's part of the waterpump casting.
