Wheel bearings

My rear left wheel bearing is beginning to squeak and it needs to be changed. I rang toyota for a quote on wheel bearings and I was told that they sell it complete with the hub together and it would cost $577.85 !

Where could I get wheel bearings? Supercheap? Looking for something close to oem quality.

how much effort is involved changing them anyway?>
is it a homer job, or do you need fancy workshop/special knowledge etc?

what type of car is it?
level of skill needed can depend on car. usually a pretty easy job if one had average skills.

not sure with your caldina but its probably the same. Mine I will be taking out the hub myself and then bringing it to a mechanic to take out the old bearing and push in the new one since I dont have the equipment to do it.

I guess that it has ABS?
Sometimes Toyota will only supply the complete hub if it is an ABS hub.
Or if the wheel bearing has worn too much it can damage the hub and a new bearing won't be a tight fit - this means new hub! and big $.
Or they could be being lazy and don't want to press out the bearing!
Talk to Warrick (mr revhead) or get a second hand one or talk to a trusted mechanic.

yea, as Kinloud says, abs can be different so drop Warrick a line.
I have not worked on any Caldina's yet but assume they are a pressed bearing. Many fwd'd have rear bearings that are just slipin fit and can easily be pulled off and on- there dead simple to replace. Press fit ones, its much easier if you can get access to a press to remove then, but you can also get them out by removing the inner cage and using a heavy screwdriver and soft hammer to get behind the outer cage, flex it and snap it into pieces.
disclaimer warning- wear safety glasses etc as doing it this way pieces of metal kmay come flying up into your face and damage you good!
