Rebuild on AE86 Calipers

Postby beeker » Sun Aug 21, 2005 5:57 pm

One of my rear AE86 callipers has split its piston outer rubber seal / boot.

How hard is it to rebuild the calliper (I'm a full amateur) ? Assume there is a Toyota rebuild kit ? or from who ?

Else, my preference would be to uninstall the caliper and give them to someone that knows what they are doing. Who ?

Any suggestions ?

thx in advance.

PS. and yes before you ask, I will rebuild both.

Nah Ive done this before, easy as. 8)

You can get a kit that has the seals etc. that you need to replace.

I got mine from Repco.

I tried to get them from RIPCO but they told me they have been discontinued, I ended up getting mine from BNT.

BNT qouted under $30 for the kit, as long as it is serviceable.
the local brake shop qouted $400 to rebuild a pair with badly worn/pitted parts.

BNT have stopped them also. Trade Parts tell me they have them, but will confirm 2morrow.

Ended up spending $110 per caliper, and getting Trade Parts to rebuild them. They sand blastered them also. They look brand new! Quite impressed.

Also got some cerified braided brakes lines made up at the same time.
