Rebuilding SC12

Postby Fandango » Tue Jul 26, 2005 4:54 pm

Hey guys. Yes I used the 'search' button but found nothing realy...?

I'm going to rebuild a SC12 to replace the current one on my GTZ.
(getting noisy)

Now, Ive been told the bearings on these are impossible to find. BUT I'm sure Ive heard somewhere you can mill out the housing to fit standard sized ones???

Any hints getting the bastard off? Had a chat to EVL_SI, he said they are absolute arseholes to get off.

Cheers in advance guys..
Geoff.

you can source the bearings through smp bearings " in hamilton and chch "
there a koyo bearing but i can not find the bearing number and the oe toyota number :x must find them

would not even bother machining out the housings
a) for the cost off doing it and for the cost of new replacement bearings

b) if the engineer cracks the housing

last time mr revhead was doing the re-serach on this

give him a belll

but i will try and find those numbers and post them

oh also
replace the pulley bearing on the s/c this is the cause of them shagging the bearings in side the housings
there just a normal every day a/c pulley bearing

What company are you working for? Ive worked at SKF and Saeco before (company slut)

Yes, they would be a C3 I guess because of the heat involved. Il have a company car for a couple of weeks so Il have plenty of time to $&#$% around with it. Im kinda concerned about all of the plumbing.

meh thats easy,
the lower bolt is a pain in the arse, but if you attact it thru the drivers side with a big power bar and single hex 14mm socket its not too bad,
the inlet has to come off the charger from memory i take it off with the throttle body assembly, the outlet has to come off, but no biggie.

when i looked in to rebuilding mine the seals were easy to get, but i had no luck with the bearings, had considered machining it out but couldnt be bothered,

have ya priced up what its goin to cost ya to rebuild?

oh as for the question you asked me about the sc14, no it wont bolt striaght on, its a pretty tight fit, there is bit of info on here i think,
theres a few guys that have tried and a couple that have succeded.

if the rotors are still ok, as with the4 housings and end plates its rebuildable, if they are scored they are stuffed,
if ya get stuck ive had plenty of experience rebuilding GM / detroit diesel blowers so can help ya out

Why not do a sc14 conversion instead of the rebuild? Just a suggestion
Fred on here has done it and the result is up for sale on trademe.

Postby Fandango » Thu Aug 25, 2005 5:24 pm

supercharger housing is being machined to fit standard 6303lluc3 bearings, had a chat to a guy at 'Autoclinic' that rebuilt 17 of them. He's sold the business since then, but is happy to tell me how to do it. Sweet!!

Will keep all gze peeps posted.

Any more news on this? Where about you can get this done?

I think that I may be up for one shortly... 12-14psi and 225k on the clock can't be good for them.

Well as far as I know, no one rebuilds them. Apart from the machining I'm doing it myself. Once I do mine, and if I have no problems.. contact me and I'l do yours- for a price :)

when you say 'i have a place that can do this' - what do you mean?

Ie, you know of a company that rebuilds them? if so who are they?

Or do you just mean you can get the housings machined somewhere?

rebuilding SC

Postby Fandango » Sun Sep 18, 2005 6:37 pm

.. FINALY finished. SC is back on the car, boosting hard!!

managed to warp a rotor, completly flog out the gears/keyways in the process. This was because we didnt put a timing mark on the gears in the first place, and had to take them on and off to get them in the right place, thus making them a loose fit and stuffing the keyways on the rotors.

Got hold of another stuffed SC12, put timing marks on the gears this time.. swapped them over and 'WALA'! done!!

I'm trialing a 'Valvoline' high speed gear oil at the moment which is about 1/4 the price of the toyota shit. Havnt had any quams yet.

Good ol KIWI ingenuity pulled through in the end !!
