Both the GT28RS and GT2871R come with 0.6a/r compressor housings and can be optioned with either 0.86 or 0.64a/r exhaust housings the only difference being the GT2871R comes with the larger compressor wheel from that of the GT3071R for a bit more flow. IIRC when they launched it, it was marketed as a step between internally and externally wastegated turbos to reach that magical 400hp level.

That's cool. I was going by the price from www.drivenperformance.co.nz ($2,279 ext GST). I see that you've done a lot of shopping around.

Hope to see the car finished soon. :)
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

I'm after low down/mid range rather than all out top end power - it is a road car after all I'll be getting the head gas flowed and a tubular exhaust manifold made up and *probably* running around 18 - 20psi boost max

that seems like a pretty hardout roadcar lol runnign 20psi i would have thought you wuold be looking at big power. and why get your motor rebuilt by mr rogers if its only a road car..
and yet u only want low down/mid range ... seems strange..

haha true true
as long as u give it a good raping frequently
ur motor hasnt been rebuilt eh jade?
i cant wait to get mine going again.

i still think if u were goign to such lengths to get motor built hardout u would want to use that ability to boost the crap out of it with a bigger more efficent turbo.

Just because you're having an engine rebuilt, doesn't mean it has to run big bhp. It's all about efficiency. This is why the head is being properly flowed and a suitable turbo fitted. That way I can get the same sort of power levels you'd expect for high boost but putting less strain on the motor  It's not always about cranking the boost up high :P

funny i always thought the level of stress on a engine mechanically was directly related the amount of power it produced.....

your goal if i remember rightly was big hp but now i see things have changed

to be honest IMO your turbo choice is more of a sidestep with little gain over what you had originally and in conclusion aside from a exercise in spending the gains over a stock rebuild to blueprint spec's would be small

ive been in a couple of variants of 3s

one running a
disco potato
blitz kit
ct20b
ct26
tdo5
t3/4
ct26

and IMO the most gogo was the t3/4 kicking in at 2800 rpm
the fastest spool was the ct26 but its all over by 5000 rpm
the most agressive power on feel was the disco potato
the smoothest was the kkk blitz
the tdo5 was the same as the ct20 when well but to me didnt really do anything special at the stock boost level

finding the best turbo is not just picking one you like and making it wirk
its a lot of calcultions and even then IRL it may not preform as you have calculated
thats why when specailests find a combo that works there reluctant to try new things as they well know the time and effort into making a good over package out of any random choice of turbo

just my thoughts
