Help: Cailper Failure AE86 > BANG

Postby beeker » Sat Sep 03, 2005 6:34 pm

I recently had the two rear AE86 callipers professionally rebuilt (unnamed merchant at this stage), and fitted them myself.

I bleed the rears and had got to the last front wheel when BANG, what the!! Went to the back of the car, and there was brake fluid splatter everywhere and on the wall too. On inspection, the caliper piston rubber grommet has a 2mm hole in it. I assume the seal below it gave way.

Could I have caused this ??

Any ideas ?
Faulty parts ? Incorrect rebuild of the calliper ?

Note: I hadn't even started the engine, and got the brake booster started yet. Also installed some braided lines at the same time... Not enough give in the system with meaty pads ??

probably been pinched on assembly, and when almost up to full pressure has given way

IMO this could only happen if they were poorly rebuilt. 8O
