Yes std ecu cant be made to work with boost but its not ideal and no where near as good as aftermarket ecu. But can be done.

the old r32 skyline turbos are pretty well suited for a cheapy turbo. Spool pretty qucik on the 4ages and well suited to low boost levels like up to 10psi. A bit unreliable tho once ya start running decent boost levels on them.

HAHAH this is what i did...

Lasted a whole 10 mins... nuty|mike will vouch for me when i say it was a $&#$% awesome ride :P

the engine can handle the PSI as long as you be very careful in the setup..

I had a AW11 MR2 and had a flange welded on the bottom to fit a T3 from a skyline.

Parts i had were intercooler, extra injector controller, and a few other bits but me being too impatient, i hooked the turbo up, and fed that straight into the intage manifold. ran it in diagnostics mode as it voids the PSI readings over +3PSI (or what ever it is).

Took it up the road a few times and something went pop, and smoke was everywhere.

If i had have taken my time, and spent a little more on getting things fitted properly then it would have been sweet.

Stock fueling, timing and no IC is not a good look :o

Would be a good idea to go aftermarket ECu as has been said but if you wanna do it on the cheap, make sure its on the sensible side 8)

engine can handle 10+ psi no probs with a largeish turbo
diagnostic mode
standard computer with extra injector controller is your best bet ..
you can do about 9psi with a t25 with near stock setup bar the fuel pressure reg.

Intercooler is a must
and timing wound back to 0deg - 5deg base

look for the yellow plug thingy next to the firewall and take the cover thingy off and connect the two peices inside with a bit of wire.

is that the same thing you bridge out when you set the timing? I have a red top big port so I don't have those yellow things?

Also can anyone explain what the computer will do in diagnostic mode?

its one way of doing it.

the other is to bleed the map sensor.

both ways are not ideal. Aftermarket ecu opr the likes of a powerlink is by far the best way to go
