KE70 Strut Question

Postby pervert » Fri Sep 09, 2005 10:47 am

Does anyone know for 100% sure if KE70 front suspension is compatable with any other model that you can get shorter struts for?

I want to move to something aftermarket so I can go lower, my car is $&#$% a set of standards every six months, so its time to do something about it.

I have been told you can't get an off the shelf shorter front strut for the KE70, so that's why I am wondering if there is anything else you can get some for, that will bolt in to a KE70...

...and no-one mention machining struts, too much work... 8)

With shorter stroke inserts you generally find they have a shorter body as well, this will require a spacer above or below (or a combination of both) the insert to ensure it is a snug fit. Or you can get carried away and shorten the outer strut body.
Best approach is to get your hands on a shock book and find out the standard body sizing of a KE70 insert (T6 I think) and find something the same style with a shorter stroke, remember to consider the weight of the donor vehicle. I am looking at ST185 inserts for my TA63 struts, housings will be getting shortened to suit with coilovers.

Im using ae92 fronts with a spacer in a ke70 theres two ae92 sizes listed so check. It is pretty cheap to get your stock ones shortened (if there in good nick) and maybe add some heavier oil ( I know I wasnt supposed to say that but its cheap)

Awesome, thanks guys.

ke70wagon20v> Is it a custom made spacer, or something you purchased? If you made it can you give me a bit more info on it?

Any idea how much shorter the AE92 ones are compared to the KE70 ones? I take it that you are using the shorter of the two AE92 types?

Not really too keen on machining, as I'd have to get new standards anyway as mine are $&#$%, and then technically you need a cert. Plus I can usually get shocks for around $150 a pair...as opposed to $100 for shortening... 8)

The spacer is just a chuck of ally turned down to your struts diameter and the correct height. Its sits in the bottom of your strut because the ae92 strut body is shorter. The two different ae92 struts have a different diameter so get the wide one. Personally if your going real low the ae92's wont be enough get some new ke70 inserts and shorten them. There must be someone on toyspeed who can do you a cashy after work? I would but I only have access to gear when im back home in tpo

I've got a few mates who work at engineering shops, so that's no drama...but can't shortening the shocks be a bit dodgy if done non-professionally... :?:

i.e. Easy to $&#$% up...

You can use KE70 wagon shocks in the rear, direct fit and are 6" shorter.

That is correct, and that is exactly what I am currently using in the rear, hence why I am asking what to use in the FRONT.
