Wheel bearings replacement

Postby Silvergun » Mon Jun 27, 2005 1:22 pm

How easy is it to replace wheel bearings?

i read somewhere that you need a special tool to do it, is that true?

pretty sure i got a buggered front bearing.
I have some but not extensive mechanical ability.

cheers

depends on the car, some have pressed in beerings, others dont. You can do both at home with a selection of tools, but unless you are pretty confident then I would take a pressed in one to a specalist as they can be a bastard to get out and put in.

to bring this out of the morgue,
I have to do the bearing in a 92 MR2...
do these have pressed bearings or not?
I tried getting it pressed out but the guy managed to break the bearing carrier!!!
I got a new one, but its off a turbo so the hub center is different for the larger axle.
The bearings are the same however (i have checked at toyota)
I am guessing the way to do it is,
Press the hub center out of the bearing, then press out the bearing?

Any help will be much appreciated.

I have no idea what i'm doing, and managed to change the fronts on my AE86 with careful use of a old screw driver and a hammer !

Used the old outter bearing shell to help press the new shell back in without damage to it.
