When my house get's flooded/whatever, then I wouldn't bitch and moan...I'd suck it up.

Personal beliefs here only, which I am entitled to...

your on the right track but that's not quite the idea.

under libertarianz, they support what's called "eyeball welfare". If someone wants my support, they have to come up to me and ask for that assistance - rather than the current situation where its possible to be given more and more money without the approval of the people that the money is coming from

Yup, but it would be even better to have an extra few hundred dollars in my hand every week, then if something does happen, I would be much better financially prepared for myself, due to all the tax savings I made.

HELBND wrote:besides-if no tax worked, dont you think someone would have tried it by now?

Nope, because no government would ever give up their massive wages paid by the tax.

this way sounds nice, but youre relying on the generosity of other people, and when it comes to their hard earned cash, most people will tell you where to shove your plea for help

in my experience, unless you have libertarian leanings then its not worth trying to talk people round to the libertarian point of view however if you want to see how the Libertarianz believe their ideals could be implemented I suggest that you take a look at the press release that accompanied their Alternative Budget. http://www.libertarianz.org.nz/?libzpr=334

Libertarianz wrote:A country worth defending must be able to defend itself. A Libertarianz government will not be sending New Zealand troops to be shot at in foreign pest holes, but (as it becomes affordable) will equip and maintain a modern defence force, able to defend this country's borders. We will maintain alliances that help to achieve this goal.

Umm... how exactly is it going to become affordable, with no money going to the govt?

Libertarianz wrote:Taxation is legalised theft! Your money should be left in your pocket. A Libertarianz government will abolish all duties, tariffs, taxes and levies - except income tax. As a transitional measure this will be set at 15% - with an income threshold before payment of $10,000 - until being abolished in the shortest possible time consistent with debt obligations and transitional arrangements for ending the welfare state.

You do realise how long it would take to get rid of the national debt, where the only govt income is a 15% earning tax?

Libertarianz wrote:Libertarianz will end socialised medicine. We will progressively remove the state from all involvement in medicine, allowing providers of all forms of prevention, treatment and therapy to compete in an open market. 'Die-while-you-wait' government hospitals will be given back to their communities (in the same way as state schools) to administer as they choose. Tax relief will leave money in your pocket to spend for your own family's health care as you see fit.

Of course the cost of health care would also rise dramatically, being no longer subsidised by the government

Imo a lot of those are probably well intentioned, and sound nice on paper, but would never actually work in practise

Thats a really dumb thing to say. Thats like me going, unless your a full time gigalo like me (I wish) then your not gona understand how to get your body clapp'n a hapn'n.

"The only legitimate functions of government, says Libertarianz, are police, law and order, justice, and defence - only these, says Libertarianz, are protective, and not destructive, of rights."

Ok... but surely they understand that our taxes go towards many other things too?

I must be missing somthing...

So you say they are for legalising all drugs? Thats a good way to stuff up part of the nation....

If I wanted to be "free", id go find myself a deserted island.

Not trying to take the piss, would just like to understand why and what you are basing your decisions on...

Not really, it's actually a good way to weed out people who don't deserve to be healthy, anyone stupid enought to injure/harm themselves through taking drugs, is then going to have to pay for their own medical care, and if they can't, well sucks to be them...

...and I don't believe any kind of drug will ever 'make' someone commit a crime, you're responsible for your own actions, whether wasted or not.

After reading a lot of that website, I'd have to say they have some great ideas (on paper), I'm all for it...I'd love to live in a New Zealand where if you don't work, you don't get a cent...then when you choose to make your money illegally...you actually get punished!!!

no. i'm just aware that those who inclined to support libertarianz don't take kindly to being told where to vote.

sure they recognize that our taxes go towards other things, many of which can and would be provided by private industry

mr pad wrote:So you say they are for legalising all drugs? Thats a good way to stuff up part of the nation....

that's what i said. i don't understand where the idea that this would stuff up the country comes from.

the only person i harm by using drugs is myself - however at present many people are considered criminals for the very reason that they consume currently prohibited drugs.

last time i checked prohibition never has and never will work

mr pad wrote:Not trying to take the piss, would just like to understand why and what you are basing your decisions on...

chosing who you decide to support is a personal opinion, and as many people would not have gone through a lot of what has made me the person that I am today, its not really possible to explain why i base my opinions on the information that i have without providing a full autobiography.

to those who try and tell me having an opinion like this is terrible and not based on experience, my reply is
I have a younger brother(18 years old) who is currently on bail for armed robbery, has been for a couple of months, awaiting sentencing. at the time he carried out this crime he had only ever picked up driving related charges. in addition that evening he had taken multiple prohibited drugs, alcohol and herbal highs.
despite my knowledge of his intoxication at the time - he was still responsible for his actions

Hmm, that seems a bit naive man.... (or is that just the arsehole side shining through    )

But fair enough, people should be responsible for their own actions, however some people need a hand...

Some people are open to new ideas (me). Im not exactly sure what you mean by that statement, but If somone has a strong opinion about somthing that opposes common thinking, others might want to know why...

lyn_m wrote:that's what i said. i don't understand where the idea that this would stuff up the country comes from.

Do you think your bro would have done what he did if he he wasnt on somthin? Im not sure, and im not trying to pass judgement, however I dont know of many drugs that have a positve social effect in the long run...

lyn_m wrote:the only person i harm by using drugs is myself - however at present many people are considered criminals for the very reason that they consume currently prohibited drugs.

Pretty sure some of those are illegal for a reason....

lyn_m wrote:last time i checked prohibition never has and never will work

You sure about that? Id say there would be thousands (10s,100s) mabey more who would probably say its worked for them?

Perhaps, but some people have a pretty good understanding of everything that goes on, some people dont walk around with their eyes shut.

Noone is telling you who to vote for but do it for the right reasons. Don't cast your vote due to half-truths , misconceptions etc....

I gave you my right reasons for not voting labour and it was you that tried to shoot me down by telling me they are half-truths. I didn't need to justify them, but you had so many misconceptions yourself I put them straight.

Usually when you tell someone they are wrong you back it up.
You haven't botherd to debate my reply as I have yours, you've just made a 'one covers all statement' and said I'm wrong.

Hey pervert, you're wrong! Just coz I said
